Siren Design: Leading from Behind

Siren Design plays in the commercial interior design space and ‘ideas’ are an essential ingredient in what we do. A lot of our success can be attributed to empowering our people to utilize their talents to bring these ideas to life.

In the early days, we definitely had that start-up mentality where we asked questions, challenged the status quo, welcomed change, and embraced our mistakes––all with an absolute burning love for what we do.

Now 14 years on, with studios in Sydney, Singapore, and Melbourne, we still have that same approach. We like to think of it as leading from behind. There’s a strong focus on paying it forward and nurturing our graduates instead of pigeon-holing them - encouraging that fresh talent to grow, be brave, and take risks. No hiding your light under a bushel here!

One way we promote this is to openly share the lessons we learn with each other –– from graduates to Directors. In fact, we have a session every week where we share our ‘lessons learnt’ or ‘did you knows.’ Throughout the week we post-it note our learnings on a wall and then we simply talk about them, sometimes with a Friday afternoon drink in hand. This keeps us open, innovative, collaborative and courageous so that we can continue to be game changers within our industry.
